Brazilian Steakhouses

Brazilian steakhouses took over America and the world. And while this is so great for us Brazilians and those of you who are Brazilian lovers to have a place that taste like Brazil even thousands of miles away from Brazil. The funny thing is that each of them claim to have started the tradition of Brazilian style barbecue. However, I can tell you that brazilian style bbq has been around for many decades in every corner of Brazil. I remember, as a kid, going to eat Churrasco on the weekends…yes I am talking picanha, garlic bread, pao de queijo, pork loin, sausage, salad, farofa, rice and beans… ok 2 big differences…you will also find something that didn’t make it well outside of Brazil, chicken hearts! And the prices used to be sooooooo cheap before they got so fancy!

If memory serves me well, the brazilian bbq craze, started with Rodizio Grill, followed by Fogo de Chao. Then a string of Brazilian steakhouses starting poping up everywhere from mom and pop restaurants started by Brazilians who were already living abroad and cook authentic “homemade” style Brazilian food, including steakhouse style service, to the now multi million dollar chains such as Fogo de Chao.

If it’s your first time going to a Brazilian steakhouse, brace yourself and get ready for a meat feast experience you have never seen before. Waitestaff often dressed in costumes (from the south of Brazil), come around caring skewers with all kinds of meat cuts you can imagine. Then you can tell them if you want more or if you wish to wait…pace yourself! If you say YES, they slice it on your plate as you salivate. They will also entice you with pao de queijo and salads which may help fill you up quicker… listen to me my friends, resist the carbs! Go for the protein, try every cut of meat you can!!!!! After a few rounds, you will not want to see any meat for a few weeks 🙂 To help with digestion, I recommend drinking the Brazilian national drink – Caipirinha with your meal and the papaya cream for dessert, it helps with the digestion of all of that meat!

Let me forewarn you, after experiencing the Brazilian steakhouse, you will never think that your homemade bbq is quite right. You will go to the grocery store and look for seasoning and you will try to replicate the amazing flavor of that Brazilian picanha. After a few google searches, you will learn that it’s Kosher salt what it’s been missing all along! And of course the right cut of meat! That is all you will need! Pour kosher salt on that meat, let it sit for a little bit and now try.

To help you out, here are a few things you will need:

It will still come short of the Brazilian steakhouse experience but hey, it’s a closest match. Or just google Closest Brazilian Steakhouse near me and there you have it, probably one a few miles away 🙂

Capital of Brazil

The capital of Brazil is not Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paulo… the capital of brazil is Brasilia! Brasilia was designed and built in 1960.

The city is located atop the Brazilian highlands in the country’s center-western region. It was founded on April 21, 1960, to serve as the new national capital. BrasĂlia is estimated to be Brazil’s 3rd most populous city. Among major Latin American cities, BrasĂlia has the highest GDP per capita.

BrasĂlia was planned and developed by LĂșcio Costa, Oscar Niemeyer and Joaquim Cardozo in 1956 to move the capital from Rio de Janeiro to a more central location. The landscape architect was Roberto Burle Marx.

The city’s design divides it into numbered blocks as well as sectors for specified activities, such as the Hotel Sector, the Banking Sector and the Embassy Sector. BrasĂlia was chosen as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its modernist architecture and uniquely artistic urban planning. It has also been named “City of Design” by UNESCO in October 2017 and has been part of the Creative Cities Network since then. All three branches of Brazil’s federal government are centered in the city: executive, legislative, and judiciary. BrasĂlia also hosts 124 foreign embassies.

The city’s international airport connects it to all other major Brazilian cities and many international destinations, and is the third busiest airport in Brazil. BrasĂlia is the most populous Portuguese-speaking capital city. It was one of the main host cities of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and hosted some of the football matches during the 2016 Summer Olympic Games; it also hosted the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup.

The city has a unique status in Brazil, as it is an administrative division rather than a legal municipality like other cities in Brazil. Although BrasĂlia is used as a synonym for the Federal District through synecdoche, the Federal District is composed of 31 administrative regions, only one of which is the area of the originally planned city, also called Plano Piloto. The rest of the Federal District is considered by IBGE to make up BrasĂlia’s metro area.

brazil flag

Brazil Flag

Green, Blue and Yellow are the national Brazilian colors seen on the Brazilian Flag and prodly displayed on sports tshirts, Jerseys, Cangas (sarongs), swimsuits and just about everywhere.

The Bandeira do Brasil, as the flag is known in Portuguese, was designed by Raimundo Teixeira Mendes, and was adopted in its original form as the country’s national flag in 1889. Mendes was assisted by Miguel Lemos, Manuel Pereira Reis and DĂ©cio Villares.

Brazil’s national flag is iconic in its blue, green and yellow colours, and is often waved at sporting events or depicted on fashionable clothing items. The green and yellow represent the Braganza-Habsburg dynasty and have, therefore, been an identifying mark of the Brazilian flag for many, many years.

The green ‘field’ of the flag is occupied by a yellow rhombus. In the centre of this yellow shape is a blue circle with the motto “Ordem e Progresso” (translated to “Order and Progress” in English) across it and 27 white five-pointed stars. This represents the night sky over Rio de Janeiro, even in terms of the individual positioning of the stars. Each star represents a specific state, of which there are precisely 27.

In fact, because six new states were added to the country, the flag had to be revised and the new 27-star flag was released in 1992. In this newer version, the stars were also rearranged slightly so that they were accurate in terms of their astrological coordinates.

Because of the differing heights of the real stars that are being represented on the flags, it is not possible to look into the sky with a naked eye and expect to see all of them.

Flavor of Brazil: Texas de Brazil

If you are in one of the more than 50 cities in the United States you will have a great option for tasting a great Brazilian flavor. Churrasco or Brazilian bbq is in fact a tradition in all corners of Brazil, but it’s roots come from the southern part of Brazil. In early 2000’s Brazilian Churrascarias started being set up and gain traction all over the USA. The novalty was the “all-you-can-eat” feast of great meat. Texas de Brazil is one of the many brazilian restaurants that suceeded.

According to their own website, Texas de Brazil began with a dream in Porto Alegre, south of Brazil. Enjoying the rancher’s life and feasting in the rodizio style native to the region, one of our partners had visions of bringing churrasco culture north to the United States. He wanted to share this unique way of dining where guests indulge in a parade of meats and extravagant seasonal salad area.

The destination for this restaurant was none other than cattle country
Texas. After all, the traditional steakhouse of Brazil blends perfectly with the service and class of the Lone Star State. We are proud to bring our family-owned restaurant to the rest of the world as we expand domestically and internationally. Come and enjoy the culinary experience found only at Texas de Brazil.
